Letter - Larry & Marty Stringfield September 2008
HEALTH
While attending our daughters wedding, I had to undergo prostate surgery
(no cancer found).
Upon returning from the States, I had to undergo a second (corrective)
surgery.
EVANGELISM
Saturday, August 30, we had Rev. Mark Beigle and three of his men visit us
from the States.
That morning and early afternoon, nearly every door in the village of
Waruku next to where we live, was knocked on by our guests and members of
the Fellowship Baptist Church of Waruku. Thirty received Christ as their
Savior. Thousands of Gospel tracts were handed out.
Later that same afternoon, an open air meeting was held, using speakers
and an amplifier. One man received Christ as his Savior at that time.
FINANCES
Kenya has now joined other world countries in raising their taxes,
making it very difficult for missionaries to remain on their fields.
Among all the independent Baptist groups here in Kenya, missionaries are
now being forced to leave due to lack of finances.
Example: In just one month, the government has raised our electricity by
120%. We also are now having to pay $7.00 per gallon for gas.
PRAYER
Please pray with us that the Lord will bring in the extra funds to
enable us to remain here until our regular scheduled furlough.
Yesterday, September 7, was the last day Fellowship Baptist was in their
rented facilities.
For the past four years, the church through their tithes and offerings,
rented two rooms in a house located across our front fence.
Situations arose causing the believers to vacate the building. Where can
they go? By talking with our team and Marty, we decided to bring the
believers to the back yard of our house.
So, beginning next Sunday, September 14, we will hold all the various
church meetings in our back yard.
We are now desperate to get into a tent. Our short rains are only one
month away. Still these precious believers have agreed to meet at our house.
They will have to meet out in the open yard with little shade and when it
rains, I personally do not know what we will do.
In my past prayer letters, I shared with you that a tent will cost $5000.
Even at that I do not know if all our church can fit into it.
In closing, Marty and I personally want to thank each of you for your
faithful prayer and financial support for the months of April - June, 2008,
that enables us to remain here in Kenya as your ambassadors.
Your missionaries to the unreached people of Kenya,
Larry and Marty Stringfield
