BBFI Missionaries to Kenya

January 31, 2010 - Update

Hamjambo,

The first day we went visiting in the plantation last September we met a man named Simon. He said he would come, and he has been there every Sunday since, except for last Sunday when he was on duty on the plantation. I did a series of Sunday school lessons in November on the Romans Road and we had a contest to memorize the verses. Simon began sharing what he was learning with his 60-year old older brother, Joshua. Today Joshua came to church for the first time wearing his finest, a wrinkled, aqua-colored silk suit. At the invitation Simon took Joshua's arm and said something to him, and without hesitation Joshua stepped out and came forward and said he wanted to be saved. The blessing, on top of a soul won for heaven, is that Simon has taken to heart the need to be a soul winner and like Andrew, he first found his brother and brought him to Christ.

On the automobile front, the aircon is out on our knew Pajero, and today on the way home from church the car wouldn't shift out of second gear going up a hill. Fortunately the gearshift lever can be taken out of automatic and shifted manually, which is what I did. Once we got over the hill the car worked okay again. I hope this does not portend more car problems. I'm beginning to think automobiles in Kenya are my purgatory. (Just kidding of course.)

As for the work permit, our advocate was unable to get in to see her connection at immigrations after Wednesday. All she needs to find out is if the vote on my permit by the immigration committee was yes or no. But no one was talking or at all helpful. She said she will continue to check this week, but if we have any other contacts to go ahead and use them. I'm planning to meet with another missionary who has had similar problems, whose work permit was finally put up for a vote last Wednesday along with mine. He's going to immigrations on Wednesday so I'll see how it worked out for him. If mine has been approved, hopefully I'll just be able to get my passport stamped. And hopefully our advocate may be able to find out that information before Wednesday.

Last Wednesday was also Hannah's 17th birthday. We need the work permit completed to show we are residents here in order to get a visa for her to the States. Otherwise we'll have to go back to the Philippines to work on it.
