AN OLD FASHIONED TENT REVIVAL
Brent is just old enough to have grown up at a time when tent revivals were still being held in many places in Texas. His Granddad, Loys Vess, conducted tent meetings for most of his 54 year ministry. Brent has some pleasant and some not so pleasant memories of those days!
In Africa, tent meetings are still very popular and we have used our tent in the past especially for Good Friday / Easter weekend services. Recently we bought an extension to our existing tent that made it possible to seat nearly 150.
In July, we held a weeklong meeting culminating in a Friend Day. God blessed in amazing ways but Satan was visiting as well.
On the first night of the meeting, missionary Mark Schladenhauffen was finishing the Scripture reading, when Brent’s chair suddenly fell off the stage. He was caught, for what seemed like an eternity, with his head facing toward the ground and his feet pointing up to the sky! After everyone had a good laugh, we had a great service!
On the next night, Brent’s brother Rick was preaching and right in the middle of his sermon the lights went out. It was absolutely pitch black! Fortunately before chaos broke out the lights were plugged back in. God overruled and once again, we had a great service.
Wednesday night, Paul Hesman with A.B.W.E. preached a powerful message. This missionary was raised as a Muslim here in South Africa. He shared how God saved him one night, when he and a friend attended a film, “The Burning Hell” shown by an American missionary.
Brent was unexpectedly called into action on Thursday night when the preacher scheduled to speak had to cancel at the last minute. In spite of this, God demonstrated his power once again before our eyes.
During the mornings of the meetings, several young men held services for our youth. On Thursday morning, Brent showed a powerful film to the young people concerning sexual abstinence and the consequences of wrong choices.
Friday night, Zulu pastor Jacob Mncwabe preached and on Saturday missionary Bob Graham shared the Word of God. By the end of Saturday evening’s service, 27 people had made decisions for Christ!
The Sunday following the revival was our annual Friend Day at Bible Baptist Church. To the best of our ability, we counted 130 adults or youth present and 110 kids present. 17 of the 27 people who made decisions for Christ came to confess Him publicly. A highlight was seeing an estranged church member come forward to confess her re-dedication to Jesus Christ. She came to church that day because her 5 year old daughter asked her to come!
Brent was never fond of the bone tired weariness that followed a tent meeting with his granddad. There is not much difference this time around either! It was an exhausting week. Oh, but it was a GOOD week!
ORPHAN HOME PROGRESS
A short while ago, we wrote to you about a terrible fire that destroyed a trailer, where 15 orphans were living. Through the generosity of God’s people in the U.S.A. and South Africa, we have been able to provide school uniforms, clothes, shoes and bedding for all of them! One friend has donated 500 blocks and roofing sheets to help toward the construction of a more suitable home.
At this time, all the kids have been farmed out to neighbors, who are temporarily housing the children. Would you consider a love gift to help construct a home for these children?
Please pray for the ones who have decided to follow Jesus and for these children whom He loves. Would you keep praying for the Moellers too please!
