Prayer
Letter
October / November 2007 Dear
Friend,
For the past five months we have been working
with Independent Baptist Bible Church, Enugu. That church is a
merger of the church we started (and turned over to the
Schoolers when we left Enugu) with the much larger church
founded by Rich and Fran Schooler, who have left the field. We
are overseeing the use of the building fund raised by the
Schoolers in the construction of a beautiful church building.
About every six weeks, we drive to Enugu to collect a copy of
the receipts and inspect the progress. Pastor Paul Okonkwo is
doing a fine job of leading the church and supervising the
construction.
Last week we received a call from Jude Alilonu, a young man who
attended IBC for awhile before going off to college. Jude has
been a very diligent student and now he has started an
organization at his university whose mission is to encourage
students and help them excel. During our talk, Jude thanked me
for teaching him that salvation is by grace through faith, not
by works.
What a pleasant surprise last week when Amina Ejigah told Ellen
of a discussion she had with a charismatic pastor she met.
Amina took a stand on eternal security and had the pastor on the
run. The pastor called a friend, also a pastor, to help him.
The balance shifted and Amina had to retreat. We did not expect
so much out of Amina. Most church-goers do not understand the
beauty of eternal security. Although they know you have to
repent of your sins and receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour, they
believe you have to keep the commandments and do good works to
keep your salvation.
Malaria has been hitting us hard in this year of above average
rainfall. Many of our people have been out with malaria,
including Daniel. He lost eleven pounds in a few days. We do
not recommend that as a good weight-loss program!
Please pray for our health and that we can reach people here
with the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray that God will
bring new people to the church and revive the current ones.
Yours in Christ,
Ross, Ellen and Daniel Ligon
