Prayer Letter

Dear Friend,

A young unemployed man in our church is coming under increasing pressure to “get serious” with his life.  He graduated from high school at age 21, slowed by several years out of school in the work force.  An unsuccessful effort at passing the exam to enter the local polytechnic discouraged not only the young man, but also his family and other interested sponsors.  Students generally need a sponsor here to provide financial assistance because jobs are scarce.

Yesterday he told me he had agreed to apply to a Bible school his mother's denomination just opened.  I think financial inducements played a part.  Taken by surprise by the matter, I queried him about the denomination (I was somewhat familiar with them already) and pointed out that they are pentecostal.  They would be expecting him to be pentecostal if he was going to work for them after graduation.  He then told me that he did not really speak in tongues even though he had attended pentecostal churches for most of his life.  He said he just faked speaking in tongues!

Please be praying for Sam that he would examine his salvation and seriously seek God's will and direction.  Sam told me last January that he wanted to get closer to God this year.  Pray that that would indeed be the case.

These past two months have been very challenging.  Several of our people have had serious misunderstandings and complaints, all of which seem to have been put to rest for now.  People are quick to complain, but slow to commit.  Oh, that the two were reversed!  To add to the stress, we have been renovating part of the church and just moved there last week. Through it all God has been faithful, even during the times when we were discouraged.  Please remember to pray for your own pastor and his family.  We do!

Yours in Christ,
Ross, Ellen and Daniel Ligon
