BBFI Missionaries to Tanzania

John and Julie Kirkland have been missionaries with the Baptist Bible Fellowship International since September 1986. After living and working in Kenya for two years [1988-89], they moved to Dodoma, Tanzania in 1990 along with their teammates, David and Bonnie Jones, to plant a city church. Charlotte Turner, of United World Mission, is presently working as a part of this unique team.

The ministry in Dodoma has grown during these past seven years, broadening its scope of ministry. As of June 1998, there are four different village ministries at various stages of growth that have been birthed out of this city work. During the week numerous cell groups meet in various areas of town as points of outreach and as shepherding groups for church members. Over 30 people in the church are actively involved in areas of lay ministry, many of whom are a part of the Bible Institute, which is designed to help them grow in their Bible knowledge and ministry effectiveness. The church has grown to the place where it is praying about God's direction and selection of future pastoral leadership. These present days are a time of transition as this Dodoma Team pursues God's will for its next location of ministry.

Amy (16) and Kristi (13) Kirkland are students at Rift Valley Academy, a boarding school located in Kijabe, Kenya. School has been an important part of their lives, especially during these past few years. RVA, as the school is known, is a wonderful Christian school that has been in existance for many decades. It has made a tremendous contribution to the lives of many, many missionary children who face the challenge of schooling away from home.
